‘Blood Song’ on stage this weekend at McCarr

McCARR — A play that celebrates the infamous Hatfield & McCoy Feud will open its second-ever season in Pike County this weekend.
“Blood Song: The Story of the Hatfield and the McCoy” will be performed by the Hatfield-McCoy Arts Council from July 25 through Sept. 1 at the Hatfield-McCoy Outdoor Theater in McCarr.
Produced by the Artists Collaborative Theatre in Elkhorn City, the play describes the lives and times of two feuding families from Kentucky and West Virginia who battled during the late 19th Century.
“Last summer there was a steady stream of buses from Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville bringing visitors to see the play,” said Tony Tackett, executive director of the Pike County Tourism Commission.
He said organizers are expecting bigger crowds this summer, particularly during the Hatfield-McCoy Heritage Days festival Aug. 29-31.
The amphitheater, located in the heart of feud country near the Kentucky-West Virginia border, features bleacher-style seating, but patrons are welcome to bring lawn chairs.
The play, written by Chelsea Marcantel, is rated PG-13.
Showtimes are at 5 p.m. on July 27, Aug. 3, Aug. 24, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 and at 7:30 p.m. on July 25-26, Aug. 1-2, Aug. 22-23 and Aug. 29-30.
